My truck has become hard to crank on cold morning's. I have checked the GPR (was good) and the OHM's of the 2 wires (brown and yellow) going to the plugs. I was wondering if there is any thing else i can check before i pull the valve covers and have to replace 80$ gaskets. I just changed the oil and fuel filter (i was told that the engine oil could affect the injectors) as well as add a can of Lucas injector cleaner to the tank. Thank's Chris for your help, really apriciated it buddy
If your truck is hard to "crank", you are not having a glow plug issue.. If you would, please go back and inspect/clean/tighten your battery connections and get back to us..
By the Way, Welcome to FTE.. hang out, there is a great group of guys here..( and gals )
I forgot to mention that i did that as well (cleaned the connections). The truck spins over good, just spins longer than it supposed to. And thanks this site is way cool i am glad i stumbled on it
i check it (enigine oil) at least once a week. I was reading about the HPOP (kinda in front of the FF cover) but i have never checked that. Didn't really know much about it. The engine oil was changed last weekend. I use mobil delvac oil. I am told it's the best
Only because I dont want to really start chasing our tails here yet, with out you verifying your first thought, The link that I have attached will cover everything that you could think of for your GPR system. Read through this, if it doesnt help you find it, we can go from there.
Welcome to FTE. The gaskets are reusable on our trucks. When you say hard to crank what do you mean? Turning over slower than normal? How old are your batteries? What do all the connections look like?
Glad to see you figured out how to get the thread started. Since you've already tested the GPR with a meter, it's time to disconnect the flat connectors on the inboard side of each valve cover and ohm the pins inside the valve cover connector. The link above tells you how to do that. If you have questions or don't follow what's being said, feel free to ask and we'll dig up some pictures for you.
I've pulled the valve covers on several trucks and never had to replace a gasket yet. They're a rubber material that is re-usable, so no worries there.
If you end up needing to pull the valve covers let us know. There's a couple of things you should look at while you're in there. (That won't cost you any more money)
