wich vehicles would be good donors for 3rd member with 4:10 ratio (or something close) and posi or some kind of limited slip. also needs to be 28 splin since that what in there know. im thinking 4:10 or there about because the engine and tranny came out of a 95 f150 with 4:10 ratio. its going into a 66 f100
1957/67 F100 9 inch: The 28 spline axleshafts are the same right/left (B7CZ4234A), it makes no difference what the ratio is.
1968/72 F100: Because of the wider rear brakes, the 28 spline axle shafts are slighly longer. The ratio does not matter...but one has to be very careful, because....
There was HEAVY DUTY 9" offered as an option for 1968/72 F100's that has a 9 3/8 inch ring gear, the axle shafts have 31 splines. Only 5 parts total are shared with the 9 inch.
The 9 3/8" 3rd member will not work in a 9" housing. Some 1966/73 passenger cars (Lincoln's, T-Birds, Continental Mark III's and Mark IV's) also use this 9 3/8" rear end.
The 4.10-1 ratio is rarely seen in 1957/79 F100's, 1975/79 F150's. Most of these trucks have: 3.25-1 / 3.50-1 / or 3.73-1 axle ratios.
NOTE: 1959/67 F100's: If Limited Slip is present, the rear end is a DANA 44, not a 9 inch.
FURTHER NOTE: Ford offered for 1961/67 F100's a DANA 60 rear end as an option...with or without Limited Slip.
i had a 65/f100 with a-> hd. " locking diff " 60-2 -spicer-dana 31 spline [power-loc]2-shafts 4 pin ends was the super answer to traction to both wheels not like limited-slip with1 shaft -2 pin ends and discs on 1 side only and only good on standard surfaces not like power -loc>good on any surface sand snow ect.they are very hard to find for 4x4ers and racers>[ 9"removable-carrier[banjo style] are great for lt. duty-but super durable 32.5 hwy.geared low profiled tires the racers pic.it's a matter of what uses it's applied to and good luck with yours !that my 4 bits.thanks for the memory
You will find what you are looking for in the 1960/////1970s ford/ mercury cars! Lots of fatory HOTRODs had them. A old part's man told that the old (MA BELL VANs) in my
area were ordered with 28 spline 4.11 lockers in them, for use in our mountains! Although
I have not pulled one out of the old 70s vans in the past, it may be true?
