dad has a 01 F350, 4x4, v10, 5 spd, 410 rear gear, no cat
if we put bigger exhaust and different muffler would it improve power or mileage? Not looking for spent a lot of money on fancy header and thing like that. Was thinking about a little bigger pipe and glass pack muffler.
would this help anything?
thanks for the help
A bigger pipe will do more harm than good. Keep the 3" system and just replace the muffler. MPG improvments will be minimal if any but at least the low end power will still be intact. Forget about the glasspack unless you like the sound of a V6. Go with a chambered muffler preferably with a decent amount of capacity.
what you should do is this, straight pipe it and on your y-pipe cut the restrictors out and add a section of pipe the same size as the rest of the y-pipe is for better flow.. I have done this on mine and the difference is crazy. i got more power through the whole rpm range and alot better fuel econ. PLUS I still run my cat on it so it's 100% legal. : ) The sound is unique. and it costs so little to do this if you have a welder and a chopsaw..
