Just installed the y but now I hate the sound. Sounds like a lil V6. I think the muffler is to blame its the flowmaster 40 series with dual outs 4" tips. Before the swap it sounded very good. Now its quieter and not impressive. Anyone w/ this mod know of a better muffler to pair up wit the Y? Thanks
Sorry to hear about your sound. I have flutter sound after the Stan's y. Sounds like an old stove bolt 6 with an exhaust leak at 1800-2100 rpm's. Thorley headers are going on Monday.

I don't have the able to record sound on this lab top. The best I compare it to is a deep/ mild V8 sound with a hint of whistle like a turbo. It sounds good and I get praise for it, so I'm happy with it. It's loud enough without sounding like a funny car... or worst... a ricer from hell.
It's the stock manifolds with 2 1/2in pipe coming directly off the manifold for true duals (All sensors are in place). I do not have a CAT on this truck... so if you try this set up with a CAT... I don't know what it will sound like.
I've tried with and without a CAT, different mufflers, and this is the set up I came up with. I run a K&N kit as well.
** yes I know about the federal laws on CAT's being on emission control vehicles, obiviously I don't care**
Go straight to the source like I did, the pipe was less $$ and shipping was a little less than Ebay. Search spdperformance and order through their web site. Ordered 2 and got them in about a week, installed them yesterday, 1 on a 2001 and 1 on a 2004, feels more responsive on both trucks, the 2004 has a FM 70 single in and out in place of the stock muffler and sounds good to me sort of sounds like a V8. The 2001 is my brother in laws truck totally stock said his is a little louder but barley noticable but throttle response is better and holds 4th gear longer on hills so far.
I think i'll check out the FM 70 cuz the 40 just makes my truck sound like a lil car. Thinkin about just choppin the muffler off but then again i dont want it to be ridiculous. And I got my Y fro SPD cheaper than ebay but it took a lil while to get here. ANd the Y did give me more response but now I just cant stand the ricer sound

Lose the muffler and you will want to pull you ears off.... it will sound horrible.... trust me! I had the muffler shop crank my V10 before installing my mufflers and I could not believe how bad it sounded... it will turn heads but in a negitive way haha
Just a quick note, I put the eBay y-pipe on and the sound didn't change at all. I already had the ebay headers on it, but totally stock exhaust otherwise.
Still sounds like it did when I bought it brand-new, except for a slightly more of a whah-whah sound at idle through 2000RPMs.
