towing 460 build up
1.) the engine will be out of my 77 f250, my motor guy has some good ideas about what he wants to do but any ideas will be useful
2.) I plan on redoing the electrical side with MSD parts to include and new dizzy, coil, wires, ignition like a MSD 6, and a variable timing ****
3.) I want some headers (what kind and coating) also should I go with a large single or duals?
4.) Fuel pump electric or mech. or both, I looking at running steel braided line prop 3/8 or maybe 1/2
5.) water pump? My water temp does great when I'm not towing but when I do it goes way up any ideas or easy fixes?
6.) any other thoughts or suggestions

I can't even imagine trying to tow 15,000 lb. with a 460...Ford recommends a 4.63 gear for that kind of trailer weight. I'd buy a tubo diesel or stroke your 460 or supercharge it, otherwise you'll be crawling up the hills at 30 MPH in second gear.

You won't be spinning the heck out of this engine, your stock components will be adequate unless they are worn out or unless you go to supercharging.

Go with duals all the way back.
4.) Fuel pump electric or mech. or both, I looking at running steel braided line prop 3/8 or maybe 1/2
1/2 inch is for racing, stick with a 3/8 line. An aftermarket mechanical pump such as a Holley will flow more than enough fuel.

Your truck is almost 30 years old...I'd replace the radiator with a brand new heavy duty core. Make sure your block is also completely hot-tanked when it's rebuilt. Make sure all the shrouding is in place and use a factory style fan (no "flex-blades"). There is no easy fix on this, just spend the money and do it.
6.) any other thoughts or suggestions
Trade down to a smaller trailer/5th wheel. Try to keep the weight under 11,000-12,000 lbs...even at that weight you should have 4:11 gearing for hill climbing.

Ford put's these ratings on these trucks for the safety of the driver, passengers, and the motorists you share the road with. If you were to get into an accident with this rig and they proved you were over weight, you're in deep doo doo. Your insurance company can even drop you without paying a dime for the lawsuit.

The GVW for my truck is 10,000 lb, it doesn't have a listed GCWR. My trailer doesn't weigh in at 15,000lb I over stated that. It weighs 8,000lb unloaded and loaded about 12,000lb. My trailer is light by today's standards, you ought to see some of things that people are hauling out there. I saw a late 80's Ranger towing a 8,000lb 5th wheel. Talk about scary. My rig is extremely safe and driveable, I had no problems on my 3 week 7,000 mile trip, (which included 4 hours or lovely LA traffic).
