Is it worth just changing the fluid in the transmission (8 to 9 quarts) and the external filter. Or should it be flushed, replacing 17.5 quarts? I just don't want to waste money. The Tech folder used to have instructions on how to flush, but I guess alot is missing. Thanks - Dale
I did the change and changed the internal filter. I am not sure but was told as long as it is changed with Mercon Sp at the correct intervals you should be fine. I have an 04 with 138k and its as smooth as ever....
I believe that the flush is better. Changing all of the fluid is much better than changing part of it. The internal filter only needs to be changed at a rebuild. It isn't fine enough to require a change.
You need to have a heated flush machine to flush a TorqShift.

However, the external filter should be changed every 10 to 15,000 miles depending on driving conditions. I do mine every other oil change. A lot cheaper than a tranny.
