i have been driving my '86 F-150 pretty regularly now and the other night i noticed my headlights getting dimmer and dimmer to the point that it would shut everything including my engine off when the tail lights would come on when i hit the brakes. so i thought the alternater might be bad cuz i havent had to even touch that or the battery since i bought it (few years ago). so next morning i shinned all the terminals and grounds up and charged it. took off and ran just fine throughout the day then at sun down i used my lights and sure enough everything started getting dimmer . so now im thinking it could be a short in my lights, probably towards the back near the tail lights (wiring doesnt look the greatest). i know there is a short somewhere in the dash cuz it blows the fuse for the dash lights right away but it has been like that for awhile and hasnt affected it. my question: shouldnt the alternator keep it all going even if there is a short?? could my alternator or battery be shot? any help would be great i suck and finding shorts and all that
ok. that would probably explain it because one of my dummy lights is on an sometimes it'll be nice and bright and other times it'll be dim. i just threw in a roll bar and i have 4 off road lights on it and then there are 2 in the grill gaurd up front. i started having these problems about the time i put on the extra lights. i wouldnt be over-loading my alternator would i?
I'm not sure if you're overloading your alt. It depends on the wattage and amperage demand from all of your lights. In any case, I would replace you old alt. with a good 80-100amp unit. Doing so will probably solve your problem and supply sufficient power to all of your accessories with the increased demand. That would definitely be a good idea.
i have a 2008 f 250 4x4 four door. the window will only roll down from the drivers side controls. no other windows will roll down from the the seat controls.if you lock the windows from the drivers side and then unlock them the windows will not work from any switch in the truck and a buzzing noise is coming from the window lock switch. if that switch is unplugged and then plugged back in they will again only work from the drivers side control help please!!!
Start a new thread about this topic in the appropriate forum section. You need to be more specific. Which window works? Which do not work? Do the passenger windows work using their local switches?
From the info you have provided, it sounds like the master switch needs to be replaced. Is there any corrosion or melted plastic at this location?
