I also have the "OLD" explorer lock/unlock problem with a different combination of symptoms. The remote only unlocks the doors, will not lock them, the door switches and the rear switch do not work, lock or unlock. I went into the door panel and connector and did a wiring check and did not find any broken wires (think I moved the broken wire because everything started to work for a week or so, then back to the same problem. I am confused about which wire wires should I focus on for my problem, is there a schematic somewhere that I can look at to determine which wires might be at fault and where?
The vehicle is a 2001 Ford Explorer Sport (not sport trac), 2 door, 2 wd.
No outside door touch panel
It has a rear switch, that currently does not actuate the door locks (neither lock or un-lock, but I can hear the hatch relays work for lock, but no relay noise for unlock.
The remote will unlock everything, but not lock anything.
Side note the cigarette lighter also has no power - checked the fuse OK and replaced the unit, discovered no power using a meter.
I do not have the manual for that year, but it sounds like you moved the wires in the door .and things worked . most likely the wires in the rubber boot between the door and the body is where the wires are broken . usally the wires are broken internaly(under the insulation) from opening and closeing the drivers door.you must open the boot and give each wire agood tug to see if they come apart. In older explorer the wire colors were pink/light green tracer and pink /yellow tracer(stripe).your model may be differant colors.
depending what model car and year there are as many as 40 wires.there are door lock wires , window wires , keyless entry wires etc. some of the other colors you may want to look at are r/o ,pk/bk, pk/o ,bk,bk/w all these wires relate to the door locks.
