I searched, but couldn't find anything on this - if I'm searching poorly and it's out there, thanks for directing me!
I need to change the front track bar on my '99. For availability (99's are harder to find, special order, etc) I want to change over to use the "big" track bar used in 2000+. Plus I'd like to install adjustable bar for fine tuning after I change the lift.
Easiest way is to use the late 99-05 track bar bracket (yes it bolts on). Then you have to drill the bracket on the axle and find the larger bolts for the new bar. Or, you could have yours modified to be adjustable by using parts similar to what is on the tie rod ends.
I would suggest not swapping it out. I did it to my 99 a few years ago and I had a lot of trouble replacing the upper bracket btwn the frame and the bar. The nuts spun on the backing plate inside the frame, that holds the nuts for tightening. So I cut torched the bolt heads to try remove the nut plate. The bracket came off at this point, but the plate with nuts and part of the bolt would not fit btwn the frame and the steering gearbox spacer inside the frame. In the end I got the nut backing plate out, the new upper bracket on, and the bottom hole drilled out.
The bar has started to squeek since the hole was probably drilled too big on the axle bracket.
Some of this may be due to MN road salt, but I would not do this mod again...

First issues I've heard of doing this... thanks for sharing.
