I recently had my rear brakes replaced on my 03 Explorer. Apparently it is a Disc brake/Drum combo on the back.
After 2 trips back to my mechanic the brakes are rubbing constantly. It doesn't seem to matter if I apply the brakes or not. I thought perhaps it was the parking brake so I engaged/disengaged but that was not the problem. Making a hard left turn seems to exacerbate the problem on the right side. Anyone know why? Could they be bad pads or is my mechanic missing something, or is he just inept?
I had a problem with a brake that kept hanging up so bad that it got so hot it warped plastic hub caps.replaced the calipier and no change .found out the rubber hose
deteriorate internally creating a flap , would allow the fluid to operate the calipier ,but would not let the fluid return.this kept the brake constantly engaged.the flap acts like a check valve.
Are both sides rubbing? If it's just one side, I agree that it could be a collapsing flexible hose or a sticking caliper. After driving it, feel how hot each wheel is to see if there is a difference.
The problem seems to have gone away. I took it out for a long drive last night. Oddly the problem sseemed to get worse when I made sharp right or left turns, but after a while it went away. Could have been dirt on the discs or on the pasd???
