Found a black CPS

I was able to locate a black CPS for my truck at a IH dealer locally. $123.34 Canadian dollars. It seems like a lot considering the grey ones cost $22.65 CAD each. It seems as though I could keep a spare and change if I needed to for a lot less money. Any thoughts on this?

From what I've read about the grey ones not being up to snuff, either pick that one up or contact Clay at RiffRaff Performance for a black one.

If your truck runs fine with the cheap one, use it. If the new one causes a rough idle or any other issues you notice, then the black one is worth the extra $$$. Some trucks don't like the new gray one, others don't seem to have any issues with it.

Clay is out of them right now. Even if he had one and I ordered it, with the exchange rate, shipping, and taxs at the border, I would be back over $100CAD.

There is no apparent rough idle, but there are times when it seems like it runs better than others. (262,000 Kilometers).
I want to do everything I can to make it run better and be more efficient. I bought it new and will continue to drive it until Ford figures out how to build a truck for us again.

There are used ones on Ebay for $10 USD guaranteed good... can't hurt to carry as a spare.

I should look into that. If I wasn't such a tight wad I would just bite the bullet and get a new one. I would if I knew for sure it would make the truck run better. Thanks for the info.

I bought one from Clay and 2 of the used ones. I figure it can't hurt to carry the used ones as spares, or to toss into someone else's rig that I might come across dead on the side of the road. I don't trust my gray one, I may take it to Ford and ask for my money back or Ebay it.
Are you running a gray now? If so, I would try to find a black one and keep the gray as a spare. If you are running a black now... just be patient and try to come across a good deal on a black spare. Or, go out on a limb and try the new IH gray CPS to see if its any better/worse than the Ford part.

I have the recall CPS in there now. I thought I would do some calling around to find a black one. I found a few of them. They were made by a different manufacturer much earlier. A new grey one from IH is only $23 CAN. The old black one is $123 CAN. If I was having idle problems I would jump on it. But I am trying to find a less expensive alternative.
I see that a spare is the way to go, grey or black.
