Why no CEL?

A few have reported this issue in the past and for the first time, this happened to mine this afternoon.
Cranked engine, was driving down the road, approached a decent hill and noticed all I could do was loose speed.
Realized my turbo never woke up (no boost).
Couldn't get to a safe place to pull over for another mile.
Allowed EGT's to cool down, rebooted truck and the turbo woke up.

So, why does this not throw a CEL or an alert message?
This is my first ever engine related issue, if we want to call this glitch an issue.

Fun facts - EGT's get high without the turbo.
I hit 700F on EGT1 trying to get my poor truck up the hill at 45 in a 65.
Two miles created 0.14 GPL in soot, too (lots of soot as expected).

sounds like you have a tuner, hence the egt monitoring capability. which makes me wonder what you will do if you have an engine issue, and no warranty.

Tuxedo, He has a Edge CTS. It has no ability to tune the engine, It is strictly a monitor that displays what the trucks computer is already collecting.

There is no warranty issue.

The Edge CTS will display all 4 of the EGTs that already exist in your trucks exhaust system.

my understanding is that if you plug anything like that in, regardless of function, ford opts out of the warranty. and the pcm records anything plugged into it

No tuner, truck is stock except for new tires.
This has happened to other stock trucks.
2horses' truck is one of those.

Painted Horse is correct, it's montored by the Edge Insight CTS and he's also correct about the warranty concern so I respectfully disagree. .
Ford is monitoring for changes to the programming.
This device can't change code.
Sensor data is streaming to the OBD-II port anyways so all the CTS is doing is converting it to readable format.
Several of us have had previous discussions on this topic in the past and to sum it up, those of us who have the CTS Insight aren't concerned.

It does not detect it. Also my 1st 2011 enjoyed loosing boost just whenever. It was like yours, shut it off it was happy. I don't remember what tsb they done but it resolved that problem.

Just out of curiosity, which egt did you monitor?
I have #3 right now. Not sure which is the one or one's we need to monitor. The problem with monitoring all 4 of them is I have to lose two other gauges then.

I have it set up for 5 gauges now.

I monitor EGT1 (EGT11) which is post turbo after the downpipe and EGT4 (EGT14) which is post-DPF.
This saves room for the other six PIDs using the 8 PID screen.

Happened to me once. I do admit that when it happened, I was in the habit of turning the key straight to start and not waiting the second or two for the truck to completely wake up.

Now I turn on the truck, snap on the seatbelt, then start the truck. I have also noticed that my mileage went up about 1.5 mpg using my new startup method.

I believe the computer needs some time to read all the sensors, if not given enough time, the computer still cranks the motor, but may not have correct data required for normal operation.

I always wait.
On the basic screen the last message is "4x2" then reports to whatever screen I last used.
No errors during the self check that day.
I had no idea until I hit the hill.

The times it gets started as soon as the key is turned is when it's at the dealer.

Well, the good news on mine is that it only happened that one time and has not recurred (knock on wood) since. Hopefully yours won't have it happen again either.

As far as "booting" goes, I usually wait until the seat has moved forward from the easy exit feature before actually turning the key. I have no idea if it makes any difference or not. I also watch the glowplug and make sure it's off too. And then I wait until it has completed the boot process (i.e., finds my phone, etc.) before I put it into gear.

Nobody can deny warranty because you are monitoring your truck's function.

CTS

I agree that the CTS is not designed to change anythin in the engine. It is just a monitoring device. HOWEVER, I remove my CTS when I take the truck to the dealer. I shouldn't have to, but it may avoid an issue.

The CTS is no different than the ScanGuage. Just monitors that's all. You actually have to buy a tuner to make the CTS tune. I've had my 2012 into ford with a CTS on it and no issues whatsoever.
