anyone make or now how to make a trailer out of a ford pickup bed ? a long time ago (10 yrs) i saw in a 4x4 magazine a 80's bronco with a trailer made of a 8' ford truck bed he had it painted same blue & white color scheme as truck, and had same tire & wheels as truck. and same tailgate . it looked sharp. i think he had a nice snug fit topper on it & used it for camping.where the gas tank filler door is he had retrofitted w/ water connections where you could hook up a hose & fill up a water tank i guess where the gas tank use to be.i need an enclosed cargo trailer for work but remembered how neat this was. it'll prob. be allot more stronger as far as weight it could carry.
My uncle has one, that we share with him. Ours/His is a 1968 GMC 3/4ton bed.
What happened was that the truck got wrecked beyond repair (rolled) about 20 years ago, and my uncle but the frame where the bed and cab meet. Disconnected the driveshaft and made a tongue from the frame, and even hooked up the wiring so we have brake lights.
About that trailer , I have made many, You need a truck with a good bed and about 3 to 4 ft. of frame left on in front of the bed.
Buy a v or mobile home type coupler figure out the angle you need ,
notch & bend the frame just in front of the bed so the frames come togeather to fit the coupler, weld on the coupler & safty chains, but the axle on a 1/2 ton is no good. to much gas to turn the gears.
you can get a trailer axle and narrow it or use a 3/4 ton axle (full float) & pull the axles and cut the caps off and stick them back on to keep in the grease. works good eather way. good trailer building
