Yeah the YZ is just a single cylinder but if you dont fill confortable doing it take it to the shop it shouldnt be to much if its just a bore & new piston ...
ok heres what i got, i took the head off and now the piston moves, its still hard but it moves, here are the pictures...
stripes on the far wall of the cylinder
so as you can see i was able to move the cylinder
to me, an untrained eye, it doesnt look out of the ordinary, cept for those big marks on the back side of the cylinder, those dont look good to me. but i will let you guys tell me what you think.
Glad i took it apart, it was super easy, and didnt pay hundreds of dollars to have someone do it, good call steve.
Hm - well it's kinda hard to tell looking at a pic but the cross-hatch pattern is still there on the cylinder walls, so it doesn't seem to be too worn, you might be able to bore it. No gouges?
I guess now that it turns, you can check for spark
nope in fact those stripes on the back wall that look like burn marks rubbed off when i felt the cylinder, so thats not even metal wear, just maybe a leaky piston rings or gasket at the top or something, but the wall is smooth all over
how do i pop the piston and rod? through the trans? or keep tearing it down from the top
I believe you would have to separate the case halves to do that, unless there is enough room to get to the connecting rod bolts after sliding off the cylinder.
ha no i had just filled it up and there was plenty of gas/oil mixture in the tank. i guess i forgot to say that i had gone for about a 20 min ride and everything was fine. i came back let the bike sit a while, then when i went out again after letting the bike sit for about 20 min it died after about 10-15 min of riding again...im not sure that makes any difference though

Easy on outboards, but on those things I cant say.......The bore appears to my eyes to have scoring/scuffing, but I do not know how many hours are on it, I dont know your skill level but it looks like you need to go deeper into the motor and check piston/rod/ brg/crank...........Maybe time to stop and have a shop check it out?
now before i really get my hands dirty with more tearing down, what could cause this problem in the rod and piston? and how hard is a continued tear down going to be, does it stay pretty easy? cuz if not i will just take it to a shop from here on out

If you're not confident you should probably stop now, because you'll probably just keep going deeper and deeper until....well, look at the other bike sitting in the garage.
Everything you don't do though, you have to pay someone else to do.
