Clean the feul system, a lot of my bikes with older carbs, do get like sludged up. Same with the tank. Installing a better filter, cleaning the carbs, and inspecting it for crap is one less thing you gotta worry about anyways and should be done! also its pretty cheap...
I would try to richin it up just a little and you probably know but these fords dont like to be cold so make sure its up to op temp before you put the hammer down.
What the heck are we talking about anyway? :/
2100?
2150?
Holley?
EB/Carter?
If it's a 2100 2150 they tend to be lean in the low speed circuit and are famous
for a stumble because of it. I had real good luck richening the low speed circuit
on friend's pickups from work etc back-when. FiNgured it out messing with
my 2100 and so applied it to any body's 2100/2150 that was game.
Much later fiNgured out the differences in the emulsion tubes too. The good
ones have holes up two sides, the crummy ones have holes only near the top
on four sides... http://www.panix.com/~alvinj/file12/booster.jpg
