I would like to get a engine started while on the stand and would like to see if any of you have a checklist as to whats needed to make this happen. I am referring to the electronics like starter relays, etc.... I really dont know where to start and your help is appreiciated.
The starting circuit works the same as it does in the vehicle. The only difference is in the truck, the starter solenoid grounds by mounting to the fenderwell. In this case you'll have to ground the mounting flange of the solenoid to the engine block. A wiring diagram that you'd use anyway is what you need, and you can get those in a Chilton's, Autozone's website, etc.
To tell you the truth, I'd just drop it in the truck. It'd be much more practical and safer. Especially if it's an automatic because you'll have to mount up the transmission anyway for the bellhousing so that you can get the starter on there. Plus, with it in the truck, you can mount up your radiator. I've never thought it to be a good idea to run a motor on the stand without coolant, even if for a short amount of time, even though people do it.
