Good morning gents. My 99 b2500 4 cly shut off on the road this morning and now will not start. She'll turn over just fine but no sputtering or almost-starting. The engine light isn't on when i try to crank it. Any ideas for a deductive checklist so i can start narrowing down the problem?
when i first turn the key (just to on, not to crank) i can hear it turn on. Just tried starting it again, turned it on - listened for the purr of the pump. and on the first turn it sputtered for a second, then went back to just dry heaving.
Any number of things can cause this... it's either not getting spark or it's not getting fuel.
What about maintenance items like plugs, wires, fuel filter, etc. - have those been changed recently?
If I read your post correctly, it sounds like it happened all of a sudden instead of it being a problem that's been occurring over time - is that correct?
Correct. as far as i know. My roommate has been driving the truck for the past few months so i havent been in it as often as i should, and thus dont know if there has been any gradual progression of symptoms. But he told me it was a sudden event.
I did not think of that. What do i look for? I'm intensely mechanically inclined; but have never had to deal with timing belt issues other than just replacing one.
Just did a spark check and she's getting spark. Tried spraying starter fluid in the intake but that doesn't work.. about to check fuel pressure. does anyone know off the top of their head what a 99 4cly is supposed to run at?
When you tried the starting fluid did you remove rubber air intake and spray directly into throttle body? If you have spark it should start up and run till starting fluid is used up. Did you remove timing belt cover to see if it's intact?
so i was going through the fuse box and my pcm.hego.cvs fuse under the hood is getting no power. neither is the pcm diode. i checked fuse 19 which correlates to the pcm system and its working fine. any ideas about what would cause this?
from what i can tell by reading it, i need to check the pcm relay, the inertia switch, the fuel pump relay, and the junction box ground thats under the engine on the passenger side if i remember?
