Clutch Options......

Ok... I have a SBF going into a Jeep. I ended up with a F-150 Bell housing and clutch fork to match Jeep tranny. I also am using the column, brake pedal, clutch pedal, etc. from an 88 GT. I originally planned on using the cable setup for the clutch off the Mustang since it was easy to fabricate a bracket to hold. With all my wisdom (or lack of), I just realized today that since the clutch arms pivots from the drivers side on the truck setup versus the pass side for the Mustang. THe end result is the truck needs to be pushed and Mustang one is pulled. So now I have a dilema on going a truck setup with linkage and all or maybe going to a slave hydraulic setup. Has anyone changed their cable setup to a slave??? If so, what is needed and what advice would you give me???? Any information would be appreciated.... Would the Mustang stuff still work or need to go to a truck setup??? I have never looked at the truck setup and assumed it would be setup like the brake pedal going into the master cylinder...

Ok I'll do my best.

1.) Going over to a hydraulic setup will require precise measurement. You will need to know the following.
- the throw required by your pressure plate
- where the throwout bearing must ride on the trans input shaft in order to engage the teeth correctly of the pressure plate (alignment of the trans to the pressure plate)
- the diameter of the trans input shaft
- the diameter of the teeth on the pressure plate.
the throwout bearing must be able to move far enough, ride on the input shaft perfectly, and engage the teeth on the pressure plate perfectly. With some careful measurement you should be able to spec one out. After that it's just finding the right master cylinder setup to produce a pressure ratio in the hydraulics (I'm not sure what's optimal here you'll have to wait on somebody else for this), and run a line between the two. With the amount of fab you've been doing thus far it should be within your skills.

2.) Because the bellhousing is mustang, I'd say go with the mustang clutch. A custom cable may be necessary, but I'd think that a company like locar could get it done for you for about the cost of the hydraulic setup running junkyard parts (if not less).

Either option seems viable, but I think the cable setup would be easier. Just get the length right and drape it over the tunnel.
