Quick QUestion About The 289

(Sorry if this is in the wrong section)

I am putting a 289 into my 1994 ford aerostar, and I was wondering in what vehicals are the FI289, theres no room for a carb under the hood so FI is needed, So what year of cars/trucks did a FI289 come in?

The 289 was never FI. The late 302 where and may work for what you need.

The 289 was cancelled after the 1968 model run ended.

The 302 was introduced in April of 1968 (used in cars only till 1969).

289's were installed only in 1963/68 passenger cars (including 1965/68 Ranchero's) and 1966/68 Bronco's.

Fuel injected 289s.

I would imagine that the fuel injection system from a 5.0 (302) would work on a 289. Just make sure to avoid the early 1963-64 289 with the 5-bolt bellhousing. It won't attach to newer transmissions.

Why are you wanting less cubic inches?

The 289 is the same physical size as the 302, it just has a slightly shorter stroke.

As for the smallest Ford V8, how about the Taurus SHO V8? One problem is that they are super rare. But that would kind of add to the cool factor.

The modern modular 4.6 and 5.4 V8s are huge. Take a look in a Mustang engine bay some time.

I think you have a misunderstanding of what the cubic inch size of an engine refers to. It refers to the volume of displacement which is determined by the bore and stroke of the engine. The external dimensions are NOT determined by the cubic inch side.

I would expect that it would be pretty difficult to find a V8 with smaller dimensions than a 302 Ford. There have been a few V8's built with smaller external dimensions, but they are not common or easy to find. This aggravates your situation when trying to find parts or hop up items.

Have you googled something like "V8 Ford Aerostar" or some such? I would not be surprised if there are kits available to facilitate such an engine swap. You might at least find some information from someone who has done it or tried it.

Good luck,

I have seen a 302 Aerostar before, but IIRC he moved the firewall back, The 4.7L is about the same size as the Ford 4.0L, I will probably put a 302 in it.
