Hood Design

Hey guys I'm looking for a little input on a project that I want to start now that the weather's getting nicer. When I first bought my truck 4 years ago I bought the K&N intake kit for my truck. Which as it turns out is a pretty silly design because it eliminates the air box so it sucks in all of the air from the engine compartment. So I'm thinking of getting a hood from the junkyard and making some sort of scoop for it. Wondering if I could get some ideas, cowl induction, ram air scoop? etc.

Yeah, not anything too big and flashy, just looking to make something different from every other old f series around my way.

Why not just box in your cone filter(s) and do a ram-air setup to the radiator core support?

Boxing in the intake was my initial idea, I just figured I'd look into something different before I decided. My reason for wanting to do the hood was just for the fun value of making it, also just to do something different from what I see driving around all the time.

The ram air back to the front where the original came in would probably be the easiest, but I know what you mean. I toyed with the idea of making a hood scoop "just for fun." I think it'd look pretty sweet.

Try a page like this:
Hood Scoops - Fiberglass Hood Scoops, Cowl Hood Scoops, Lund Hood Scoops and more

"Hood Scoops for Trucks" brought up quite a few finds on the internet. Find one you like, cut the hole for it, and do some body work to put the scoop on. Oh, and post pictures.

ebay has some good deals on hood scoops. I found this one for less than $10. eBay Motors: Universal Hood Scoop Side Air Vent #510 Black (item 220385306370 end time Mar-31-09 21:58:27 PDT)

Although it is from Hong Kong, Canada.....is that somewhere near Quebec?

Yeah I'm thinking the easiest way will be to make the scoop and weld it onto the hood and cut the hole out after the fact so that I can hopefully avoid warping and flexing. I'm thinking the cowl induction will be the best look for the body style of my truck
