As for the blinking Transmission light, get the codes, it will tell you what the fault is, On my 1997 the light started blinking the code came up Torque converter not locking.

The wire bundle to trans runs down passenger side of motor, pull your fender liner and see if it is rubbing on the exhaust manifold, mine was and it was an issue.
