alright, by now you already kno that i have a 77 f150 4x4... and i was now wondering what i would need to make a 5.8L windsor EFI system go on a 400 M-block... is it just adapters and a wiring harness?
I could see why you would want to go from carb to efi,if you were using the whole efi 351.the 351m that is in your truck is a completely different series of engine, the lower intake manifold wouldn't fit and I would doubt that you could buy one that would.if you want to change to efi I would consider using the whole 351 windsor that your injection is one,you would have to change your engine perches and your transmission/bellhousing to suit.
i heard that you could put an efi on these engines if you put on some really thick intake spacers... and im going for the efi b/c they are more reliable and efficient and better for climbing hills
I'm not sure about the spacers, but I'm sure its possible and as for the efi over carb, for a daily driver I think its a better way to go if you have the means of doing so.my 78 2wd is carbed and I just finished building a roller 302 for it and got a holley 670 street avenger for it.but it will be lucky to get 2000 miles put on it this summer, and I'm looking to make maximum power.but I am picking up a 95 4x4 to run for a couple years and then rebody it with a dentside.its a 302 5spd.I had thought on making my 78 efi when I first picked up the 5.0 engine, but they had hacked the harness so bad it would have been a headache.but if you could get adapter plates to use the efi I would love to see some pictures,it would be a neat setup that you wouldn't see everyday.
It's a lot more involved than that. They're completely different motors and you've got a lot of work to set up a 73-79 Ford truck for EFI (a lot of wiring, O2 sensors, etc). I was going to say what northeaster said - I think if you're really willing to put forth the effort into this swap, it'd be more practical to fabricate motor mounts to put the entire 351W in your truck.

A 351W drops right in, without any fabrication needed (other than custom exhaust). The EFI, of course, requires quite a bit more work, but I would think you can swap in the fuel lines and a rear tank out of an 86 up truck...
Post this in the 335-series engine forum, where it belongs. Your question is specific to the 400, not the 73-79 series of pickups. I know at least one person over there (danlee) who has done an EFI 400, others have done the conversion as well.
check out price motorsport for the intake spacers to mount the 351w manifold to the 400 use the entire harness out of the truck the ford computer isn't that smart it won't reconize the long stroke of the 400 maybe the 351 will be no problem but you have to go custom on the computer search around the mustang forums for options on the computer the mustang efi system is diferent and better for horsepower than the truck system is you will have to use the 460 efi dist. you should be able to use the 302 towers and mounts the 351w has a taller deck height which makes it wider and taller at the top but no different than a 302 at the mounts I have started to do this swap myself on my 78 just gathering parts right now but I did my research on it.
