new 5.4 w/6 speed tranny

The Hemi IS impressive in power output. Manufactures can't lie or fudge the power numbers. I said it earlier why they are so close. The Ford/GM 6 speed are VERY good transmissions, with very very low 1st gears, and nicely spaced ratios to keep the engine in the power band. The Dodge 5 speed has a high first gear, lugging it off the line a bit, a steep 2nd gear which just drops the revs way down, way below the max torque RPM.
There is more to speed then just the engine blieve it or not.
E85 gives the Ford 320HP/390 ft-lbs, not 390HP. E-85 also drops its fuel economy in the city down into the single digits, and the 14s for highway.

Absolutely - good point, and that test backs up your statement. 5.4 makes 22% less power than the Dodge (and even less than that in regard to the Chevy 6.2...), but can still hold it's own very well, and give better mileage to boot! Hopefully we'll see a larger motor from Ford soon, more in line with the Chevy motor. Dodge will trail in power and performance at that point, badly actually, and that will force them to up the ante with a 6-speed trans or even more engine power. We should all look forward to the next few years - tough market and tough competition - let's see what wonders can come out of Detroit (and Tokyo...)!

Well if GM and Chrysler don't get their butts in gear and make some nice cars/trucks people want then Ford may have no competition at all except the Tundra which ain't even in the F150 league to start with.
