Hope this works. I posted a while back about doing some work on a '71 Galaxie with a low mileage 400 and a request was made to post pictures of the pistons when the heads came off, so here they are.
First picture of of a piston in a '71 Galaxie. I think it is still the original engine. It apears that the heads have been off for a recon at some point.
This picture is of a later engine from a truck. Its hard to see in the picture but the '71 has less of a dish than the later engine.
This pistons have to be oem later replacements, 71 400 pistosn should look like early cleveland flat tops with only the notches, although as said before, ive never seen one myself, also the dish looks fairy small maybe this are the real thing ?
This car appears to be a real 27,000 mile car. Don't know if the short block has ever been out or not. Don't know why the heads may have been off either. The drivers side exhaust manifold is cracked in three places, wonder why that wasn't fixed if the heads were off? The blue head gaskets look like Fel-pro stuff to me. Did Ford use blue head gaskets? The pistons are about .074" down the hole using a less than accurate slide caliper. The cam bearings I can see look like new, and the inside of the engine is very clean. So who knows its real history?
Any way, hope to have it running soon with the new cam, intake, mild home ported 2V heads and headers (if they fit)
