I have a 2000 f150 Supercrew, 5.4 v8, not sure of the rear end,
and a towing package. I'm considering upgrading from a pop up
camper to a 5th wheel with a dry weight of 6000 lbs. I've
calculated that about 1200 lbs would be added including passengers,
gas etc. I also have a short bed. What would you guys advise on
this configuration? Thanks for any help.
I'd advise a bigger truck. You'll be at best at the very maximum that truck can handle.
To tow a fifth wheel with a SuperCrew and that VERY short bed you would need a special hitch. The only company that I know makes one is PullRite. Their website is www.pullrite.com.
That's a little different. I'd recommend a bigger truck. The F150 is just not up to towing most 5th wheels.
At least if you keep this truck and have a long bed you won't need a special hitch. If you have a short bed you will need a sliding hitch to keep the trailer from hitting the cab on sharp turns.
