That scan gauge that you have will monitor coolant temp i'm pretty sure.

Possibly, but it's not of the parameters that comes up when I scroll through the list, and since it's not mine I'm hesitant to take it back through the set up menu.

Not really necessary anyway. I'll pull the thermostat out tomorrow, but at this point it seems unlikely that it will make a difference.

Unfortunately I agree. It's just what I would do too. I was just wondering if it was boost or simply RPM related. There is a very slight difference. CPs will be high in either case.

I've held it pinned to the floor in the driveway and nothing. Has to be boost related. Doesn't do anything at all unless the engine is loaded.

Here's something interesting. I pulled the left valve cover just to look around....just for giggles I put a torquewrench on a couple of the headbolts and both of them moved before I hit 95 lbft. Now, the disclaimer to that is the only 1/2" drive wrench I currently have is an old craftsman deflection bar, so I don't know how accurate it is, but they moved by 80 indicated when the book calls for 95.....

So here's my new theory (one that was also suggested in an e-mail earlier). Suppose the gaskets are ok and the heads are lifting. That would explain why it's running perfectly...even when it's blowing coolant. Idles smooth and even, etc. etc.

it is possible for the head to lift and start leaking in high RPM's..I'm not sure pulling the T stat and running it is a good idea...doesn't the T stat send coolant to the back of the block?? it would be like putting the short t stat in wouldn't it?? how is the water pump??

Yep. Forgot about that.

Today's plan is I'm going to go borrowa good torque wrench and retorque the heads and see what happens

Ugh...what a waste this day has turned into. Took me half the morning to come up with an appropriate torque wrench, then I get home and start re torquing the head bolts only to come to the realization that the injectors have to come out to get to the top row of head bolts.

No now I'm going to have to get a set of o-rings just to complete the test.....and I keep reading threads that say "if it's blown it's blown" and I'll end up replacing the gaskets anyway......

I wonder if the injector o-rings are resilient enough to pop out and right back in?

So...I've a little over an hour before I have to leave for work. I think I'll just call this day a wash and hang it up.

Damn Cookie that sux! Wish I was closer and I'd lend a hand.. I have pulled heads before on mine took me less than 2 hrs to get the pass side off. I'm still skeptical you have a blown HG. Have you tried a leak down test yet? You could also do a compression test too. If you pull injectors, stick a bore scope down to see if there is coolant in the cylinder. I think you are chasing the wrong thing personally.
