The headlights on my 2005 F-350 Superduty are terrible! There is no other way to describe the lighting package. My question is, do the Harley Davidson type setup light up the road any better or is the european ballist conversion the way the go? Or perhaps the Harley headlights and the ballist upgrade? Thoughts? Suggestions...i know I can't be the only one cursing the Ford engineers!
Take care

My 05 lamps are better than my 03 with piaas. I can't wait to get the cash for piaa bulbs though. If you have the aerodynamic headlights, you have good reflectors with a sharp cut off and decent dispersion. If you don't, then you have 30 year old sealed beams and an upgrade of any kind will help. Hardly's use the same reflectors, they just get black paint every where else. Have you tried adjusting yours?
I am not a huge fan of HIDs. Incandescent bulbs and HID bulbs require different reflectors. The HID kits do a half decent job of putting the light the in the right place, but I would do projector modules before a bulb kit.
I have the piaas in the stock setup right now, however they are still no where near (dare I say it) as good as the headlights in the '04 GMC I just got rid of. They are aimed and apparently they are as good af Ford comes with.Has anyone had experience with the Harley Davidson configured headlights? Do they focus the light any better the the stock setup?
Check out the hid kits on ebay, they will plug right in and replace the stock bulbs and are way brighter, but make sure you get the ones that also have a regular low beam also so you don't get any crap from the police. I don't know how the laws around there are but they are regulated in some places.
HID's is the consciences. Now some education on HID's is in order. I gather that the higher the number the brighter the light? Any knowledge would would be appreciated. Thanks!!
HID's are bright...I have some on my truck. the light pattern is ok...kinda scatters the light but they do light up the road better than stock...they are illegal though. and probably do blind on coming traffic...but here in southern cali everyone and thier mother has them so I don't feel too bad.
the number for HID's 5k,8k 30k just determine the color of the light...the higher the number doesn't mean they are brighter. the best light output is going to be 5000k or 6000k the higher you go the more "blue" they are, and your more likely to get hassled by the man for the color...when you go up in color you lose the light output...I have the 6000k and the light emitted is bright white hardly any blue. ebay has tons of kits, the high beam kits are crap...don't waste your money the low beam only kit is all you need trust me! I wish someone would come out with a DOT approved HID houseing!
You defineitly want to go with the 6000k, they are white and they won't attract attention from the cops like those blue ones do. Just get the ones that have the regular bulb as well as the hid bulb and you can turn them off if you need to. I have a set on my truck on high beams they are regular lights and low beam is the hid, it works well for me and the visibility is 10 times greater than halogen bulbs.
My Harley stock headlights really have a lot to be desired. My friend who owns an "05 Harley upgraded to HID's & they look awesome. He has the 6000K that have that nice bright white. They were bought on E-bay for about $150 & are plug n play. I think that's going to be my next upgrade.
Check out those 9" hid lights at harbor freight, I have a couple on my front bumper and they turn the night into day they are super bright. They only cost about $99.00 and are all self contained, the ballast is built into the light housing and it is just a two wire hookup. Well worth the bucks.
