Carburetor issue

I was wondering if anyone ever had the throttle lever come loose from the throttle shaft? Mine did and boy was it screwing me up when I was trying to tune the truck. Are there any quick fixes that you guys use or do I have to try to get another set up from another carb and hope I don't have any issues with the throttle plate screws breaking. I was thinking of putting a tack weld on it, but I am not a big fan of welding near all those fumes, even if the carb is off the truck and no gas in it, I am sure there will be enough fumes left over to make something bad happen. Any advice would be welcome, Thanks----Jack

If the throttle plate screws are working themselves out and the throttle plates themselves are loose, that means someone removed them at some point. They're not supposed to be removed, ever, even when the carburetor is rebuilt. It's not necessary to remove them in the first place. The throttle plate screws are peened at the factory so that they can't loosen unless a significant force is applied. They are not meant to be reinstalled once they're removed. You will need to fasten the screws permanently. If the carburetor is completely removed, drained and dried, I don't see how tack welding it would be a problem, as long as you're completely sure it's all the way dry (that's on you). Perhaps JB-Weld or Loctite?

If it is a fairly common carb I would suggest just getting a different base plate, mostly because it can be a real pain to get those plates centered sometimes, also I wouldn't try to weld them, just get some new screws for them or a new baseplate, if you can get it all correct it will be fine. But you can change a baseplate in less than an hour, and its fairly straight forward and simple, the other way can take a lot longer!

The throttle plate screws are tough and hard steel like grade 8 bolts.

one fills up first" -Alvin

The loose throttle lever/crank should be easy as anything to fix out and
on the bench. :)
Me?
I'd drill a hole into the end of it, tap it and use a machine screw.
You?
Weld the sucker if you want to try it, just know the body (2100 2150?)
is aluminum.

Guess I misunderstood a little, if its just where the throttle hooks to it, (on the ouside of the carb) I just weld them up no problems! Just remove the accel pump cam if it has one, get it straight as you can and zap it!
