Okay its a go

I am going to be fixing my truck and doing a restore on her in the next several months. The truck used to me by fathers and he passed it on to me. Know as i posted before i desire an automatic tranny and i am going to get what i want. Eventually i will be going to a 302 because i want a good cruiser i love the V8 Sound and while i know some of you are going to want to kick me in the AS* for it i dont want to get into the 4.9 is better or all that if i was going to be pulling a house down i would keep the 4.9 but i want a little bit of a combo between a Cruiser and Daily Driver. anyways with that being said i need to know if i can use the Transmisson out of a 1988 Econoline for my rebuild i have found a van that is being parted it and it has all the parts intact. also i would like to know what all parts do i need to come up with. i was told the tranny in the van is OVERDRIVE so if thats true and its not computer controlled what would i need to do to adapt it to the 4.9 (untill i get a 302 Rebuilt) . thanks in advance and again its my fathers truck and i really want to rebuilt it /restore it to a cruiser. with it being a shortbed those are kind of a rare thing around my neck of the woods.
Thanks,
John
