I bought a 1995 F150 4x4 last year. Love the truck and the 300 six is a great engine. Only thing that bothers me is the dash squeaks like it needs tightened up. Does anyone know how to access the screws/bolts to accomplish this task? Thanks
good info, if I can't fab one easily, I'll look for the Ford part. Pretty impressive gas mileage you posted there. From my little highway driving my F150 has seen, I don't think it gets more than 20mpg. I changed everything over to Amsoil synthetic except the front diff.

To get good mileage on these trucks-it is necessary to drive them like an old man. I got the " ol' man" thing down good. And being an old man-I don't let the incessent horn blaring behind me make me waste gas and speed up in traffic. And the manual transmission really helps to get the most MPG out of these trucks.
So is there a method of fabbing a bracket and installing without buying the Ford part or removing the dash? I only ask, as it seems that when ever I start a sure fire easy project on anything I wind up doing double or triple duty. Or even making it harder than it actually is.

Hello, My name is David and I am an old man and drive like one. I own a 94 F-150, 3.55 rearend with the six and the auto box. I have never gotten over 19.2 mpg.

David:
I think that 19.2 MPG with an automatic is outstanding gas mileage. If you drove like that with a 4.9 and manual overdrive--you would get in the twenties without any more effort.

Oh that 19.2 was on the road doing 80 mph. Before the advent of Ethanol in gas. It's getting about 17.5 mpg now with the ethanol...

And all those people behind you itching to pass will more than make up for your fuel conservation when they "pedal to the metal" to get around you.
At least it's not on your dime.
A few times mine's figured around 21 mpg....94 4x, 4.9 5-speed....49,7XX original miles....my uncle bought it new, and always had it dealer serviced.
What I've noticed, and I think helps.....In OD (5th), the engine may be revving less, but I could be at almost half throttle....by dropping to 4th, the revs go up, but I might only use 1/4 to 1/3 throttle to maintain speed up a hill. And I rarely go over half throttle anyway....not much more power to be found be revving a 300.
You may have a point about the revs. I know that Manifold vacumn has a lot to do with fuel economy. One other thing that came into my mind is that you V-8 guys may have a different rear end ratio than my 300. Haven't checked into that yet. But at only 1200 miles per year, it won't make too much difference to me anyways! Funny, Looks like someone hacked into the system and changed all of the ford referance on this thread to chevy.. Whats going on???
