Where is the best place to buy the new Tekonsha Prodigy
brake control? Any idea of what a good price would be for
one?

There are several sellers on Ebay that sell them new in box. I got one for $102 and that seemed to be about the average price for them in the auctions.
I've heard that the retail on the Prodigy is $160-180. Even at that price they are worth it because they are such high quality. They even work backing up, which most inertial brake controllers do not.

I bought mine from Ag-supply for the $99.95. Shipping was ~$6.00. When I called the main 800 # there were out of stock at the main mail order location. I just called one of their retail locations and they shipped it out that day. Had it in 3 days.
Well , I just ordered my new Prodigy from ag supply for 99.95 plus 8.00 shipping --they said it should be here (to texas) about Monday----on or about the mar-4th ---it was priced from 124 alway up to 169---depending on which website you're looking at--plus i don't have to pay state sales tax---whoa doggies---The ag supply number for those wanting to order is-----1-800-345-0169---fd :-X11
[updated:LAST EDITED ON 27-Feb-02 AT 05:36 PM (EST)]BTW, here is a a pic of the Prodigy mounted in the "cubby hole" of my 01 F350. The Prodigy comes with a plastic pocket that you can mount under the dash so you can slip it in/out easily. I didn't use the pocket and mounted it in the "cubby hole" with 3 strips of velcro across the top of the unit. I drilled a 5/16" hole in the cubby hole behind the controller for the wires. The hole is in the top left corner. With the controller removed the hole is out of sight in the position.

Just got my Prodigy in today from AG Supply... $99 + $15 shipping to Alaska.
Nice setup... The wiring harness already has the insulation clipped for you, 2 different mounting setups, computer based ad on a CD, and a storage pouch for the unit if you elect to use the quick disconnect mount system.
can't wait to get it in and check it out on the road.
Edmo, I think you'll like it a lot.
When I installed mine, I ran the ground wire all the way to the negative terminal on the battery because the installation instructions warned against grounding to the dash. Probably overkill, but I know I've got a good ground.
Make sure you have an inline circuit breaker installed on the feed to the controller from the positive terminal. I think it's 15A for up to two brakeing axles, 25 or 30A for 3 to 4 brakeing axles.
Happy trails!
Edmo, with your newer truck you can just use the supplied pigtail that was in the glove box. Simple hookup. The ground will be fine installed like this. Took me just a few minutes.
You have two fuses and two relays.
For a regular trailer with just brakes and lights you only have to install one relay and fuse. If you pull an RV or anything else that needs auxillary power you then install the other relay and fuse.
Edmo, my comments on circuit breaker and grounding were for older trucks. I don't think they came pre-wired before 1994. Sorry I didn't make that distinction. If you have a newer truck, do like Dave said.
Thanks guys... It is installed and wired. Talked with the support guy at Tekonsha and he said if Ford gave me the 30 amp fuses, it is all good. I'm getting a trailer next month (waiting for spring thaw in Alaska) and will put it to good use...
Will the 7 pin wire on a 5er reach the bumper mounted 7 pin plug?
I installed a circut breaker between the brake controller and the Ford harness. I mounted it to a metal bracket under the dash. So, you can say I have both.
