is it worth it to do 3 inch body lift on my 93 f250? i don't want to do suspension cause i don't want to spend the $, I use the truck maybe once or twice a month so it's not a daily driver and i already have a jeep cj with 10 inches of lift and that is my primary off road vehicle. I gotta take the bed off to repair cab corners so i figured i would throw one of those $100 3 inch body lifts. Is it going to mess up my driving?
IMHO the 3'' body lift isn't worth the trouble... the 2'' is much easier and and better looking IMO.
Allot of hardcore wheelers will tellya that bodylifts suck for a variety of reasons... most notably that they look funny and that the added leverage the blocks give can cause them to break... some have even said that there dangerous. Do a "bodylift" search in the 4x4 forums and you'll get an idea of what some people think of them.
I have a 2'' body lift in my truck... and although I really liked the result, I don't know if I would go to the trouble to do it again. The kit requires your bumpers to be relocated, shifters modified, and on the 3'' kit the steering shaft to be extended. The thing I noticed right away is I get allot of body flex... enough that when I park on uneven ground the box and cab don't line up. The other thing is the bolts that came with the kit suck and after removing them a couple of times ( I'm in the middle of a mini resto) the bolts have rounded and the washers have started to pull through. I think better grade bolts should come with the kits, I will at some point upgrade mine to grade 8. On my truck I think the e-brake cable is too tight from the cab and frame, it works fine, but I think I'll make a new bracket to fix it....
Body lifts will not "mess up" your driving...hope that helps...
on my 89 f-250, I used a 3". I made a bracket for the emergency brake cable, drilled new holes in the frame for the rear bumper.I took the 4x4 shifter out, and heated it with a tourch, then re-bent it to work. my front bumper is just shoved up as high as it would go. I am going to make a new set of brackets later on, when I re-paint. only trouble I have had in the 19 years it's been on the truck, is that the bolts that come with the kit are real crap. I went along and replaced all of them with stainless steel. Only time the truck gets a little hairy is when you have the slide in camper on, and get cross ways on a hill. probably would do that without the lift kit too. as I'm getting older, I'm sometimes sorry I put the lift on, because it is really difficult to get in the truck at times, but then, I just look at how cool the truck looks when you pull up to another f-series, and they have to look up at you
