Cats?

I have an 06 scab 4.6L I have a flowmaster 40 series cat back system, super chips tuner, and air raid cold air intake.I have read on here that the cat back system alone does not add much power, if any. I am in afghanistan where I can't go look at my truck right now, but would it be possible to remove the factory cats to free up more air flow, or punch out the factory cats, if I did one of these would it throw engine codes, and just how loud do you think it would be, I don't wanna be too too crazy. The reason I say I can't look at it now is I am not sure where the o2 sensors are to know if it would matter. Also why can't I paste pictures on this forum.

If you remove or "hollow out" the factory converters you will throw engine codes. Plus its illegal if you get caught. With the flowmaster doin it this way will make it sound like the classic deep throaty mustang sound. Now if it were me I would get a set of high flow converters and slap them on, you'll still gain power. These modular v8's need back pressure in order for them to run right (keep in mind). As for the o2 sensors their right before and after the cats. (this part is where your gonna have trouble.) As far as posting pictures, you need to post them on imageshack or somewhere that is not on your hard drive. Hope this helps.

Yeah it does, so do you think it would still throw codes with the High flow cats, even with my super chips tuner with which I can remove and view engine codes. Also where would be a good place to get the high flows? All I have been able to find are universals, or would they work?

You should be ok with high flows. With your tuner I wouldn't even worry about any codes in all honesty. Magnaflow cats are good, some members on here say they blow out to some point. Meaning the internals of the cats. If you have an exhaust shop near you, ask them what good highflow aftermarket cats that they now of or have. Universals would work but then you'll have all the booger welds, and clamps all over the place resulting in exhaust leaks. If I were you I would get a direct bolt in y-pipe with converters. This set up is the best way imaginable, if you have some $$ to throw at it of course. I don't know if your flowmasters are 2 mufflers or just one. Dude if its 2 mufflers lets just say you will have the most hardest f150 on your block, if you go with direct highflows. Summit racing is also another place to look at their number is 1-800-230-3030. Jegs also is another good place to deal their number is 1-800-345-4545. Good Luck. Thank you for your service to this country. God Bless

no I have the single inlet dual out american thunder system with a 40 series muffler. Yeah maybe with the high flows it would show up my neighbor, he has a 07 fx4 with a 5.4L straight piped after the cats. I think I will look into some universals I don't wanna spend to much $ I am still saving for tires and gears + I am pretty handy with a welder and should be able to fix any leaks.

I agree with this advice. Removing or hollowing out the cats is something that worked well on cars/trucks before they had computers in them, but these days your truck really is designed to work at it's best with the converters. So the best you can do is get some high flow ones.

I have a Borla cat back system (w/orignal stock cats). As mentioned with Flowmaster all we are really doing is making noise. Not much more power or MPG (maybe 1 at the most).

I did notice a difference in my MPG and seat of my pants when I put on my cat back system, I also put it on at the same time as my CAI. Maybe thats what I was seeing and feeling.
