Strange Customer Service

I posted before about my experience with doing business with 4 Reese, their URL is

http://www.4reese.com/

I purchased a Reese adjustable hitch set-up with the Reese trunion weight distributing hitch with Drawtite dual cam anti-sway 1000 lb. bars. Their price was very competitive. They promised a $75 dollar refund if I purchased used Drawtite bars. I was a bit nervous because I would have thought they would have just discounted the price by $75. Upon shipment arrival everything was in order and I was surprised that they were nice enough to include a free ball with the order just in case I didn't have one. They did issue the $75 refund check.

A few months ago I noticed that one of the Drawtite snap-ups (device for drawing the chain into tension) was broken down at the pivot point. I mailed the part back and 7 days later they informed me that the manufacturer determined that the break wasn't due to a defect in manufacturing - I don't know how they determined that … I don't remember how it broke or when it broke. I had only used it twice. They said they'd be getting in some snap-ups in a week and could send me one to keep me out of a bind. That was it.

I sent a reply EMAIL asking if they'd provide the replacment for free or at a discount price since Drawtite didn't seem to stand behind the part. There was no answer. I had to use my trailer a few times and had to take the risky route of not using the weight distributing feature since only ½ of the hardware could be used (only one snap-up). I sent more emails, becoming a bit more agitated and asked that they at least send me back my broken snap-up. Still no answer. I was preparing to find another snap-up but not that many places carry WD hitch accessories and normally sell all this stuff as a kit.

I arrived home tonight and found a box with a new Reese (slightly different design) snap-up. No note, in the box.

Their webiste isn't fancy and gives no indication where they are. They go by the name Southeastern and the email address is servhit@att.net and they have no phone number listed. Their address is 2738 Adair Rd., PO Box 706, Davenport FL, 33878.

To be polite, their emails are not in "business English" and are at times difficult to understand.

But, to their credit they've been honest in dealing with me. If only they'd communicate I could give them a higher rating.

Somewhat surprised,
RichF350V10

[updated:LAST EDITED ON 02-May-02 AT 03:11 PM (EST)]All I have to say... "Strange" is better than "No" :-)

Unless of course it involves weedeaters and live chickens.
