Has anyone ever came across a distibator that just wouldn't break free?I have been trying to get this thing free to set timing and it just wont move. Its a 400 out of a Lincoln I put it in my 61 Uni. It started popping through the carb so i thought i would check the timing and it wont budge. So i though i would take it completely out and it is stuck in there real good. Any help would be app.
penetrating oil is the trick...try PB Blaster...or possibly a lil bit of diesel to clean the area on the manifold/dizzy mounting area...after its all cleaned up(pull off the lockdown plate totally...but put bolt back in hole tight) put a bit of diesel around the dizzy and see if it seeps down...rememeber theres 2 surfaces that it slides into...the lower one in the block is the main culprit as far as it sticking goes...
Let it soak a bit and keep trying to knock it loose...if its a 'common' dizzy and easily and cheaply replaced you may wanna have a replacement handy...just in case...
As for it running and needing timing adjustment..the timing set may just be needing replacement also...just something to keep in mind...
