I am adding a 3 inch body lift to my 2001 Expedition XLT 4X4. How is this going to effect my towing. I tow cars around a lot and need to know if I'll have to change anything or any other insite you guys can give me
Take a look under the front end and see if a 3" lift would raise the body/radiator to where the lower hose connection at the radiator would be almost in line with your front sta bar. Remember you will be moving the engine cooling fan 3" off center from the fan shroud and radiator. You will need to revise the shroud for an off center fan. Also make sure when you raise the body, that you take into account the extra length needed for all brake lines/battery cables, frame and body wiring, transmission cooler lines, steering intermediate shaft, fuel filler hoses, etc.
I'd talk to someone who's put a 3" body lift on a superduty. The initial cost on a body lift is cheaper than lift springs, but by the time you make all the necessary modifications to everything else to make it successful you may have almost as much money invested as new springs would cost. Plus with new springs you don't have that big gap between the body and frame. Those body lifts over time can also distort the body mounting points.
Since your only lifting the body off of the frame, the frame to hitch to trailer combo wont be affected at all. But be carefull if your
4x4 ing and hit your bumper onto a stump, your frame stops but your body might roll a few inches
