I checked the forum, but I guess I am still unsure.
Currently have a 2001 Nissan Pathfinder 240 hp V6, I pull a 2900lbs travel trailer ( empty) plus two adults, two kids and one dog.
looking at a 1999 V6 auto F150. Dont have any detail on axle etc etc.
It does have a trailer hitch and wiring.
Will I be able to pull my trailer? Travel mostly here in Alberta ( Canada) and BC ( mountains).
[updated:LAST EDITED ON 31-Mar-02 AT 05:25 PM (EST)]I asuume you are looking at a SuperCab with the kids and a dog. I checked my copy of the 2001 Ford Towing Guide. In 2001 the only V6 auto S/C was a 4x2 with a 3.55 rear axle. Its listed at a max rating of 5,500lbs. So, based on this info, techincaly you would be ok with a 3000lbs trailer. But I think you would be much better with a V8. I sure the "board" will agree. Add in the wirght of the family, gear etc you will be getting close to the max wieght. The F150 is heaver to start with and I don't think the Ford V6 is as powerfull as the Nissan.
Yes I am looking at the super cab, or whatever its called.
I have no problems pulling the trailer with the Nissan which is rated at 5000 lbs. I try to travel without full water tank in trailer.
You are right the Nissan V6 is more powerfull than the Ford V6. Also the Nissan is much lighter. It is just getting to expensive and a truck would be perfect camping.
If you can find a V8 go for it.I don't believe the Ford V6 has the best reputation for long term durability.I believe it has it's roots in the Ford 3.8 V6 and it had head gasket problems.
Someone please correct me if I'm mistaken.
