Hi im getting error code p 0266 cylinder 2 contribution/balance fault , truck which is a 2006 f350 118k on it . sounds bad when its cold , lots of injector noise quiets up alot when warm , im also getting antifreeze smell from time to time but not lossing alot i was thinking maby erg cooler? i was adding diesel kleen additive to each fill up and switched to amsoil 10-40 still sounds like crap when cold even if i plug it in could the head gasket be gone any help on this would be great .
Based on your statements, it sounds like you have a 6.0. As a result, my input is based on that assumption.
A contribution/balance fault is indicative of an injector going bad. In your case, sounds like you have a problem with the #2 injector. Have you noticed any more smoke than normal since the problem started or is it getting worse? If so, what color is the smoke?
Also, when was the last time you changed fuel filters? If it's been more than 15k miles I'd change them now. Also, check your oil to make sure it's not overfilled and check for presence of a diesel smell.
As far as the antifreeze, you indicated you're not losing "a lot." You shouldn't be losing any. There are several places that could be causing an antifreeze loss. These are a cracked EGR cooler, leaking EGR cooler hose, bad resevoir cap, leaking radiator hose, head gasket. I wouldn't automatically assume it's a head gasket issue.
You want to know if it is a egr cooler then pull the egr and look for moisture. If it is coming from the egr cooler you will see moisture build up on the egr and inside the intake.
