When cold starting the engine, it runs rough. I have to keep my foot in the throttle to keep it running. Does smooth out after about 5 minutes- longer in colder temps. Recently I had a high pressure oil pump installed. I checked the reservoir after the repair and after the truck sat for three weeks -it was still full. I had glow plugs, relay and new batteries installed recently too. I noticed to keep the truck running when the engine starts, i have to keep my foot in the throttle (otherwise the engine wants to stall), the oil pressure guage doesn't come up right away- keeping my foot on the throttle keeps the engine running long enough for the oil gauge to rise, once this happens the engine stays running but still runs rough. Thank you for any help. --Tye
Yes, oil level is full and has maybe 2,000 miles on it. This problem has been continuous even with fresh oil. I replaced the HPOP mainly to start ruling things out. This truck was a fleet vehicle at one time and there was a doubt to its condition- being it was a remanufactured pump. I also had issues with the oil in the reservior leaking back into the engine. So to take care of two possible issues at once, I had the pump with check valve replaced. The oil leaking out of the HPOP reservoir issue has been resolved. As far as the low pressure oil pump, I am not sure at this time if that is an issue or not. I am trying to get a feel if the symptoms piont towards a possible faulty low pressure oil pump. Thank you very much for any help. --Tye
It might be the IPR. I checked the reciept from the HPOP install from the Ford dealer and there was no IPR part charge. That would've been a great time to install a IPR tho- oh well live and learn i guess. I am not too happy at the price of a IPR either -$312! An entire LPOP is $209! Thank God this is my company truck -at least I can write this **** off.
