Excursion Battery Discharge

Has anyone had experience with the battery in the Ex discharging during periods of non-use?

I purchased the Ex for towing, so it often sits for a couple of weeks (or more) without being started. I have found the battery discharged to as low as 12.0 volts in this time period - but I will fully charge whenever I find it to be in a partial discharge state with an external charger. The battery was replaced when I purchased the vehicle and still checks out good.

Neither did the PO use the Ex as a daily driver (it's an '05 with 35,000 miles on it) and I know from the Oasis report that he had the battery changed out a couple of times prior to my purchase (alternator always checked at service and operating properly), so I suspect that this has been a problem since the unit was new.

I have removed the aftermarket DVD, so eliminated that as a possible parasitic draw, but am now forced to check each fuse for mini-draws.

I would appreciate any speculation on possible problematic circuits.

12v isn't bad, My truck starts decently at 11.8v. The VSM or an alarm could be staying alive to await unlocking the cab. A little trickle charger like a deltron battery tender is designed for storing a vehicle and should be a champ for you.

You are on the right track.

In a similar circumstance (different vehicle), it turned out the alternator had a bad diode.

My X will discharge down to the point of barely able to energize the GP and then crank over after only a couple of days. I had the batteries checked last fall and they said they were still good but I'm going to install a couple of Deka Eliminator batteries as they have a deeper discharge abililty for running the winch and air compressor. Will see if they make any difference in letting the truck sit for more than a day or two.

If anyone finds an apparant drawdown of their system, post up as maybe this is an inherent flaw with our trucks.

Mine is the VSM needs programming. I can suck a battery down below 11.8v in days with my alarm on and my VSM issue. My draw once the battery saver is tripped is around 275ma including the pace edwards bedlocker control and my compustar alarm. Before the relay kicks out, it's around 750ma. If I pull the VSM and Body fuses in the right sequence, I can drop the draw to 30ma.

My GPS was a big draw as well. I think it consumed nearly 100ma when plugged in.
