Looking for a little feedback from anyone in the know. This past weekend I went and looked at an '05 Ltd Excursion diesel that was in great shape, 65K miles on it but something didn't look right. I realized it still had the old body style front end and bumper. I did look at the carfax info and it wasn't in an accident. I forgot to look at the sticker on the door for the manufacture date. Is this a rare find or did quite a few make it out the door at Ford before the front end was changed over to mirror the Super-Duty of the f-series trucks. I already own a 2000 so I was really looking for one with the new body style. Anyone have any knowledge of this phenomenon?
Thanks
I forgot to ask in my post above would the new body style parts match up easily to the old body. In other words, would it be a pain in the neck to change the front end around to make it look like a true 2005?
Somebody is simply trying to pass off a 2004 as a 2005 model. There is zero chance that a 2005 left the assembly line with a 2004 front end. They have to shut down the assembly line briefly and retrofit it to manufacture 2005 models before starting production.
I think there's also a zero chance that Ford assigned it a 2005 VIN # if it wasn't a 2005 model.
Ok, first, thanks for all the replys. I too thought this was strange but the
vin# is 1FMNU42P25ED46312. I ran this through ford.fleet and it says 2005 although the body code was different from other '05's. In all fairness, I did get several different body codes for different '05's I checked.
Here is a link to the truck: http://www.1stcommercialleasing.com/ They have two 2005 Ex's. One black, one gold. The gold one is in question. I will call them tomorrow and confirm the vin#. The color matched up so I thought it was a good sign that this was the correct vin.
I don't know how to post pictures but their website is fairly easy to operate. The add is also on cars.com. They are located outside Orlando, Fl. Is there any difference on the dash that could confirm this in the photos? I will post the confirmed vin# info tomorrow morning and hopefully get this solved. Thanks!

You can tell if it's an 05 from the dash.
The 05s have black/charcoal dashboard bezels and the same color on the door armrests.
So, it's definately an 05. You need to find out what happened to it. Ask them why it does not have an 05 grille, etc.
If the EX's are like the trucks, all you do is change the header panel, and the headlights and grill fit perfectly. The bumper also fits the way it should.

There is a difference between the trucks and the Excursions I guess. Even if you change the header panel and headlights, there's still not enough room to put a 2005 grille in. The 2005 grille is about an inch too tall to fit in, and an inch has to be shaved off the bottom. The bumper changed on the 2005 Excursion which allows the 2005 grilles to fit in.
