exhaust question

so i'd like to get some stacks and throw em up, but my question is, since they obviously come through the bed of the truck, how much bed space do you lose to allow for heat? i dont generally tow and use the capacity of my bed on a more frequent basis. would it be more economical to just get an underbody exhaust?
