steering gear adjustment
Recently upon one of my trips to the local junkyard i found a remanufactured power steering box on a 79 bronco. Knowing how much these cost, i got it for a steal, and replaced my wore out box with it. The box works great but does anyone know the proper procedure for adjusting the 78-79 bronco power steering box? I just want to make sure its as good as it can be and I sure would hate to ruin my new box. thanks Dale

Its pretty simple. Just back off the sector shaft locknut and adjust the screw about 1/4 turn. Tighten the locknut and roadtest it. If you read the book, it will tell you to jack up the truck and use a torque wrench on the steering wheel to get the right setting. But the roadtest is the final athority anyways. The problem is they ussally get too tight in the center (straight ahead) before you get the play out of the turns.
