I'm thinkng on swapping the motor on my new(old) truck..lol..
Its an 86' f150, with a 302, i've beign thinking of swapping it with an 351m. If i do i would like to put 400 crank, heads, pistons, etc.
Would i have any problems???if yes, what would i need to do???
You also have to change out the engine mounts, as well as the exhaust y pipe. I am not a huge fan of the 351/400m. I have always had better luck with the 302 and 351w.
351m huh? Seems like a waste of effort. Even if you put 400 parts in it, the 400 was only rated at 170 horsepower, to the 351m's 150 hp. While the '85 up 302's were rated at 150 to 225 hp, 265-300 ft./lbs. of torque, while the 351w was rated at 200 to 240 hp, 260- 340 ft./lbs torque. It uses the 429/460 bellhousing pattern only adding to the weight. Swapping it for another 302 or 351w would be the best thing since parts for the windsor block motors are more readily available.
