i have a 93 f150 5.0 5speed 2wd. my paassenger leaf spring boke and my new one should be here tomorrow. the po replaced the drivers side and didnt bother with the passenger. all i plan on replacing is just the mount that bolts to the frame. i am just wandering if anyone has any tips on doing this and what grade bolts do i need to use to bolt it. i also plan to weld the mount in a couple spots for safe keeping. thanks! the beer is already in the garage fridge!!!!
Grade 8 bolts--and use lockwashers. I used Grade 8's when I did my new spring perches--no issues.
I wouldn't bother welding. Henry didn't weld it, and your new bolts will be as strong as, or stronger, than the original rivets. Why have the drama of welding near the gas tank/plastic fuel lines, tires, etc...? Not to mention future dissassembly headaches.
There are lots of ways to get the rivets out..Air chissle ...gringer...I found using an air chissle to get it started then use a sawazzall with good blade made it alot easyer & faster..
Well i got my new mount installed and i had to replace the shackle while i was under there. Only took bout an hour of work and an hour of drive time to get thew new shackle from the ford dealership. I just hope i dont have to do this again anytime soon. I hate grinding. Lol
Both my rear mounts are getting ugly. Will be doing them soon. Keep an eye on front radius arm mounts(on frame). Had our '95 at work rot to pieces and truck wandered really bad on highway. Had to really look as the rubber was hiding the problem. Until I jacked it up and realized the arm MOVED, did I know it was gone underneath the rubber.
