390 build help?

i have a 390 at the machine shop at the moment. im putting 360 pistin in and i have a decent top end. i was wondering what cam to use??
is a 428 cj cam too much?

D-Shake, sounds like you're on the right track. No, the 428CJ cam is not too big. Before it was used in the 428CJ, it, or something awefully close, was the 390GT cam. But you don't have to limit yourself to 40 yr old cam technology. Newer grinds are available that have similar duration but steeper ramps- gives a better idle- and more lift- breathes better. You might contact Dr Rabotnick at survival motorsports. He specializes in the FE series engines and has several nice grinds. DinosaurFan

By the way, remember you can stroke that 390 with a 428 crank if you can find one and get 410, thats what I should have done. Later.
