Hi, Just picked up my first trailer equiped with electric brakes today and have a question. I have a 93 f150 s/c 4x4. I had to hook up the electric brake controller w/o using most of the factory wiring. Here's my question....when I put on my flashers it is activating the electric brakes. is this normal? I looked at the indicator light on my controller and it lights up with & without the trailer connected when the flashers are on. doesnt do it with the turn signals only the flashers. When i wired it I ran the power wires from the battry thru a circuit breaker to the controller then the output wire to the 7prong connector. for the brake light input and ground connctions I used the factory connector under the ashtray. Any input would be appreciated. Thanks, Dave.
I have seen this before...you said that it does not activate when the turn signals are on...that's good. Also, seeing an indication on the control without a trailer hooked up is normal. On many controllers the little indicator light just means that it "sees" a brake input signal and it will then send a brake output.
Although I'm not 100% familiar with your specific wiring, I would say that you should check which side of the brake pedal switch you are hooked into. Dpending on which side you are hooked into you could be getting your "brake" signal when the flashers are on.
These wiring problems are just one more reason I prefer the Jordan Research Ultima 2000 brake controller.
Thanks for the reply. I'm glad someone has heard of this problem before. I'll look into changing the brake signal input connection. currently it is attached to ford's factory brake control harness but maybe the goofed up. If I get a chance soon to check it I'll post what I find out. Thanks again, Dave
