Has anyone out there installed a pulley upgrade. if so, how big of a difference did it make and have you had any problems with it. my 2000 l will be in the shop getting this upgrade done and i'm starting to feel a little scared. This is the first time my baby has had anyone work on her besides me and the dealer. The guy is a top mechanic at gene evans ford in atlanta and he's shown me all the precautions that he has taken. he even showed me the new water pump with and electric fans he says this will help keep it cool and the upgrade is perfectly safe but i'm still a little unsure. I need a little help here guys.
I have a 95 Lightning so I don't know how much this will help. It gave me an extra 10th off in the 8th mile and about 1.5 MPG better. I never had any overheating problems (I live in Savannah) but I did not like that the alternator would not charge at an idle.(A bummer when you want a/c). I took them off for that reason. I have heard of kits that don't effect the alt. I have however read about precautions of oil leaks on the Triton motors when changing the crankshaft pulley. Other than that, no problems. Good luck!
In post one I am refering to underdrive pulleys. Being a Gen 1 owner the supercharger pulley did not cross my mind. I hope the info will be helpful to some one. :-)
I had the pulley upgrade done. It cost me a little more than expected because of the horror stories that i heard on this site. The guy I found to do it works at the ford assmbly plant. and he had the tools to actually press the new pulley on the supercherger. Then I asked him if this would void my warranty. he said that you could not tell with the naked eye unless you had two lightnings parked side by side. This is a great upgrade it not only gives me more horsepower, my supercharger kickes in almost instantly. great throttle response.
I've talked with different tuners about re-programming the PCU, running the 2psi pulley. No Sir...there is no need to change a thing. Now going up to a 3psi pulley and larger, it is advised that one dials in a new program....
Good luck!
