solinoid question

just a ??? about ford solinoid
i know power in and power out
then there is S post and I post or terminals
is it I post that activates solinoid and if so what is other post for?
is it always hot
thank you for any info

It should go hot when you turn the key to the on position, before you actually start the truck, then when you turn the key to start position the S post will go hot.

so is it feed hot in other words power in when when key in run position
why? sorry for all questions understand the funtion of single S solinoid just trying to get the I part

the I will always stay hot when in run position, S will only stay hot for the breif moment the key is turned all the way over when you start the motor. The two post solenoid is the more common type, while the single is more found in lawn mowers and stuff like that.

If the I didn't stay hot while running, well, it wouldn't run.

I don't know much more about them, but there not that hard to make work, if anything the solenoid is the easiest part to work on in my opinion.
