Ok, so I've been looking for these things for years, I guess they're called "euro style" headlights or something of that sort, but they don't make them for our style (1987-1990) Fords.... Im talking about just having the lenses be clear plastic instead of all the ribbed parts and such in there.....well, it was a bit of work, and I only have 1 done, but I decided to make my own, let me know what you guys think!
Before (standard headlight lens)
After most of the cleanup
A little more sanding and polishing and a before and after
Im happy with how these turned out, cant wait to get the other one done and see what they look like on the truck!
lol, you mean the side markers? I might know a guy that still has some lying around, I was going to get those next......check Ebay too, they pop up there every once in awhile too....
thats one thing I am wondering about........is how bad it is going to scatter, nothing to do but turn em on at night and see I guess, and if they scatter bad, I was only out the cost of all the sanding materials......I have an extra pair of these sitting around
That's going to be dangerous, now all you have is scattered light with a lot of glare for on coming traffic those ribs focused the light.
You beat me to it, lol. I was going to say the same thing but I'll add that the clear lights also have a more focused reflector and a different bulb style I believe.
yeah, actually had em in tonight and drove around a bit (country roads, no traffic) and I definately can't see even half as well as I could with the original lenses.
SO.....going to get those other lenses out of storage, polish em up real nice, throw on those clear corners, and call her good......
Ok, so heres the second set, the top one has been sanded and polished with a little paint work done on the inside, I painted all the gray parts black and the very outside edge of the reflector (not in the bowl), and the bottom is the before.
That looks cool. I hope the painting doesn't effect the light output though. How did you paint the inside? Did you separate the lense from the housing?
I don't see what all the hype is about. Don't get me wrong, I don;t like the yellowed or clouded lenses either. It seems to be a problem on older Fords. Even my '99 Taurus headlights have clouded after the driver side one being replaced 5 years ago when my wife ran into the back of an F-150. It is what it is.
